The Road to Success

Posted by ProliferatingTruth on April 17, 2012

The road to success in life isn’t always straight.

There’s a curve, called FAILURE.

A loop, called CONFUSION.

Speed bumps, called FRIENDS.

Red lights, called ENEMIES.

Caution lights, called FAMILIES.

And flat tires, called JOBS.

However …

If you have a spare, called DETERMINATION

An engine, called PERSEVERANCE

Insurance, called FAITH

And a Driver, called JESUS

You will make it to a place called …

SUCCESS.

"And The Walls Came Tumbling Down"

Posted by ProliferatingTruth on July 8, 2010

Joshua 5:6, 13-15 – "For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD sware that he would not shew them the land, which the LORD sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey. And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries? 14  And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant? 15  And the captain of the LORD’S host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so."

Introduction

  • Josh 5:1-2 – God instructed Joshua to circumcise the people who had come out of Egypt.

  • Vv. 3-9 – God removed the reproach of Egypt from the nation as Joshua obeyed the Lord.

  • Vv. 10-12 – God weaned them from their reliance on miraculous manna, to show them He had a new plan in place to sustain the nation.

  • Vv. 13-15 – Jesus Christ revealed Himself as the Commander of the armies of Israel, and instructed Joshua in how to succeed in taking the first major city on the way into the Promised Land.

How did the Israelites succeed in the first battle of their campaign to take the promised land?

"I Want That Mountain"

Posted by ProliferatingTruth on July 5, 2010

Joshua 14:6-14 – "Then the children of Judah came unto Joshua in Gilgal: and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite said unto him, Thou knowest the thing that the LORD said unto Moses the man of God concerning me and thee in Kadeshbarnea. 7  Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadeshbarnea to espy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in mine heart. 8  Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt: but I wholly followed the LORD my God. 9  And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy feet have trodden shall be thine inheritance, and thy children’s for ever, because thou hast wholly followed the LORD my God. 10  And now, behold, the LORD hath kept me alive, as he said, these forty and five years, even since the LORD spake this word unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old. 11  As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in. 12  Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said. 13  And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance. 14  Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day, because that he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel."

Introduction

  • Caleb had a promise from God that he collected on 45 years after it had been made.

  • All of God’s promises, including those given to Christians, are waiting for us to collect on them.

  • Caleb’s experience illustrates the pattern of life that characterizes bold, successful Christianity.

How can Caleb’s life and success be a pattern for today’s Christian? Let’s look at the example of a man of God, Caleb, to discover what the pattern of our daily lives should be.
