The Road to Success

Posted by ProliferatingTruth on April 17, 2012

The road to success in life isn’t always straight.

There’s a curve, called FAILURE.

A loop, called CONFUSION.

Speed bumps, called FRIENDS.

Red lights, called ENEMIES.

Caution lights, called FAMILIES.

And flat tires, called JOBS.

However …

If you have a spare, called DETERMINATION

An engine, called PERSEVERANCE

Insurance, called FAITH

And a Driver, called JESUS

You will make it to a place called …

SUCCESS.

Lessons from Nabal

Posted by ProliferatingTruth on September 16, 2011

1 Samuel 25; Matthew 7:12 – "Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets."

1. PEOPLE ARE FICKLE - furthermore, they tend to be selfish and unappreciative.

2. DON’T BANK ON THE APPRECIATION OR RECIPROCATION OF OTHERS - even when you’ve done your very best to give them every reason to be both reciprocal AND appreciative.

3. SHARE YOUR BLESSINGS AND RESOURCES – exercise the Golden Rule, that you might be blessed with friends, and not enemies, in life.

4. DON’T BE CHURLISH – this inspires opposition in others; and, furthermore, it EXASPERATES them.

5. MAKE UP FOR ANOTHER’S CHURLISHNESS IF POSSIBLE – IF possible, that is.

6. DON’T FLIP OUT WHEN THINGS DON’T GO AS YOU’D PLANNED OR PRESUMED THEY WOULD GO – don’t overreact, as David did. And don’t blow your stack, as Nabal did. Both reactions have a tendancy to lead to premature death.

7. KEEP GOD INVOLVED – and align your responses with His merciful character and compassion. BE THE BIGGER MAN – and God will handle your Nabal FOR you.

How to Have a Successful Nervous Breakdown

Posted by ProliferatingTruth on November 20, 2009

Passage: 1 Kings 19:1-18

To Have a Successful Nervous Breakdown …

1. Forget that blessings are followed by trials.
2. Try to run away from problems.
3. Forget that God is willing and able to help us.
4. Exaggerate your problems.
5. Decide that you’ve done more than your fair share.
6. Ignore your blessings ~ Big & Small.
7. Have the mindset that ‘God owes me.’
8. Develop a Martyr Complex ~ I’ve sacrificed so much ~ feel sorry for yourself
9. Live in the past. ("You can’t live off of yesterdays ministries/ strength")
10. Look for something spectacular to sustain you ~ Not the still small voice.

- Pastor John Davis

“How to Develop Staying Power,” or “Gaining an Unshakeable Confidence in God”
Read: 1 Sam 17:1-18:7 (The Story of David and Goliath)

Introduction – Some Key Thoughts on Staying Power:

  • You’re not in life to impress any person; you’re not even in it to impress God; you’re in it because there’s a greater cause at stake, a greater goal to be concerned about; you’re in it because God is the supreme love of your life.

  • You’ll only be motivated to kill a giant when you see that the other alternatives are completely unacceptable.

  • A giant killer knows what weapons work best for him, and which ones don’t.

  • He knows himself to the extent that he knows his greatest weaknesses and strengths.

  • A giant killer is motivated by the cause, and galled by blasphemers who are claiming that God can’t come through for His people.

  • A giant killer is motivated to do the job himself; he’s aggravated by having too many people in the way of getting a clear shot at other giants.
