Lake Andes Update: October 15, 2009

Posted by ProliferatingTruth on October 16, 2009

It was a blessing to call the pastor of Lake Andes Baptist Church today! As we visited on the phone, Pastor Amell updated me on the current status of the church there. Here is a brief summary:

  1. General weekly attendance averages between 13 and 17 people, up from 3 to 6 when I filled in last year.
  2. Vacation Bible School saw 33 attenders this past July. Also, the group who did VBS did some trimming and paint work around the property. The kids asked if that group could come back again next year.
  3. Some familiar names, from when I was preaching there, are still attending. Some other folks Pastor Amell and I had visited on occasion, when we were calling on the Reservation, are also attending from time to time. Continue to pray for Pastor and Mrs. Amell, as they have been witnessing to these people for many, many moons!

I haven’t visited the church since I passed the baton on to Dr. Bob Crane in January, 2009. I wanted to visit in May, to commemorate the one-year anniversary of my coming there as Interim Pastor, but so far, I haven’t gotten it done. I hope to drop in sometime in the future.

That’s the latest on Lake Andes Baptist Church! What a blessing to know God’s preserving that ministry, and that He’s using a faithful, reliable missionary to get the job done!

God’s doing a work in our association of churches. Please continue to pray for the Northern Plains Independent Baptist Fellowship, and our Missions and Camp Ministries!

Lake Andes Update and Prayer Requests – 5/16/09

Posted by ProliferatingTruth on May 16, 2009

I called Pastor Amell tonight, and heard some good news about Lake Andes Baptist Church. Regular attendance there has risen from 3 to 12 since January, and as Pastor Amell commented to me, the number could be as high as 18 on Sundays, if everyone would show up! Also, a retired couple who are neighbors to the Amells in Ravinia are attending regularly, playing the piano for them. Trust me, when you go without a piano player, you learn to appreciate it when you DO HAVE ONE!

Please continue to pray for the church, as ultimately they will need to find a new pastor, though for the time being, it appears that the Lord has Pastor Amell staying there for a while.

Pray also for the nephew of a friend of mine, named Sam, who is suffering from a rare immune disorder, and is in need of another marrow transplant. Details can be seen at CaringBridge.Com.

I was also able to speak to a former Bible College professor tonight, and catch up with what’s happening with him in Sioux City, IA. Pray for Bro. Campbell and for Landmark Baptist Church, as he continues to try to encourage that congregation, and to juggle a job with his responsibilities at the church.

God is good!
